The Outer Banks Reformed Fellowship
What is the OBRF?

The Outer Banks Reformed Fellowship is a Reformed Congregational Church.

By calling ourselves “Reformed,” we mean that our understanding of the gospel of Christ is the same as that biblically-grounded, God-centered faith which gave such joy and strength to the men and women of the Protestant Reformation, five centuries ago.

What were the central beliefs of the Reformers?

1. God’s Word, the Bible, is our true, final, and all-sufficient authority for doctrine, worship and living.

2. The Triune Sovereign God provides salvation for his people. This salvation is free, eternal, and life-transforming. This is all included in the idea of "grace." Grace is not dependent on  man’s will or works to get it or keep it, but  gives everything that God requires of man.

3. The Grace of God is given to us in Christ Jesus alone, our complete Savior.

4. Christ, with the salvation He brings, is received by faith alone.

5. For His glory, God works sovereignly in everything that takes place in the world, bringing His purpose to pass.

6. For these reasons, our highest aim ought to be to glorify God in every aspect of our lives.

By "Congregational," we mean that when God calls a people together to form a church, that local congregation of the Lord's people is authorized and equipped by His grace and through His Word, to govern themselves and carry out the ministry He has given to them.  This does not make them "independent," from others, for the congregations of the Lord's people are inter-dependent, but, rather, it means that each local church is the expression of His body and bride and holy temple -- complete in Him.  For this reason, OBRF is thankful to be associated with the Reformed Congregational Fellowship,

To see a more expanded statement of the beliefs of Reformed Congregationalists read the Savoy Declaration of Faith  and the Cambridge Platform of church government.

We cherish close ties with Congregational, Presbyterian, Baptist, and other churches committed to these central doctrines which is why OBRF is also a member of the multi-denominational and international World Reformed Fellowship.

Finally, OBRF believes in the UNITY of the Christian Church, a unity which is achieved within and among congregations as the Lord's people, Reformed and not (yet!) Reformed, grow together in the  knowledge of the truth spoken in love (Ephesians 4: 15-16).  It is our prayer that this will be encouraged by our sponsoring the Roanoke Island Institute of Christian Studies, a ministry aimed at helping local church leaders and individuals to grow in the knowledge of God's word.
